Glimmer in the Shimmering Christmas Light

Dear SabesWings Family,

There’s something profound about Christmas lights—the way they shimmer and dance, bringing warmth to the coldest of nights. But have you ever noticed the one light that barely glows? That faint bulb, flickering with just enough strength to hold on.

You can see that same fragile light if you look deeply into the eyes of a cancer patient during the holidays. It’s there, barely burning, eclipsed by isolation, fear, and worries far heavier than the diagnosis itself. For many, the joy of the season becomes another shadow—a reminder of what feels out of reach: peace, laughter, hope.

While we decorate our trees, bake cookies, and wrap presents, cancer patients and their families are often consumed by a very different reality. The exhaustion of treatments, the strain of financial burdens, and the ache of watching loved ones suffer cast a cloud over the magic of Christmas. Their light dims. The glimmer fades.

But isn’t life, especially at Christmas, about rekindling that light? Isn’t it about standing shoulder to shoulder, lifting others up so they can see the stars again?

This past month, we’ve had the honor of doing just that through our Wings of Hope program. We’ve worked to ensure that cancer doesn’t rob families of Christmas or its deeper meaning. For these families, hope can feel like a distant memory.

Yet, with your help, we’ve been able to bring it back.

Over the past week, our dedicated staff and volunteers delivered mountains of hand selected gifts to these families. We climbed steps with arms full of brightly wrapped boxes, only to hear the shrieks of joy from children peeking through doorways. We saw teenagers smile for the first time in weeks. We watched weary parents cry, not out of despair, but relief.

And in those moments, we looked into their eyes and saw something extraordinary: their light shimmering brighter.

It wasn’t just the gifts—it was the love behind them. The knowledge that someone, somewhere, cared enough to make this season special. That glimmer of hope, reignited, shone more beautifully than any string of lights we could ever hang.

Our reach may be small, but our love is deep.

To all of you who pledged your time, resources, and prayers to Wings of Hope this season, we want you to know this: you made a difference You were the hands and hearts behind every gift delivered, every smile seen, and every tear shed.

This Christmas, let’s remember the power we hold when we come together. Let’s continue to seek out those faint lights and pour ourselves into making them shine again. Because Christmas isn’t just about the shimmering—it’s about the glimmer that refuses to go out, no matter how dark it seems.

Thank you for being that light for so many.
